HMRC has revealed figures that say thousands of taxpayers submitted their self-assessment tax returns online over the Festive Period, with some 6214 filing on Christmas Eve, 1944 filing on Christmas Day and over 6000 on Boxing Day.
Online self-assessment tax returns must be filed by midnight on 31 January 2017. Any tax returns submitted up to three months after this deadline will be subject to a £100 late filing penalty - even if you have no tax to pay.
It's thought those that do not celebrate Christmas may be among those filing - and some will have used the break to catch up with paperwork!
