August sees our company retain Gold Approved Status from the ICAEW for ACCA Training, one of our team qualifying after passing his final exam and the recruitment of a new trainee.
It never ceases to amaze me how much UK business grinds to a halt in August! Quite frustrating on the R&D side as work in progress continues to build up.
One aspect of our service that I am plugging really hard at the moment is sitting on R&D committees. Having committee meetings is a great discipline and ability to maximise a claim.
It is early days but I am enjoying working with Jemma and James of 2J Events. We are mentoring them as part of our new foundation programme and they are remarkably good. We are concentrating on updating their website and getting the marketing message right.
I have been working with 918 coffee for about 6 months now and it has been a pleasure to do so. The challenges the business faces are very much in my sweet spot and there is massive potential. Ross has been doing a great job on product branding and literature. We will have some exciting announcements to make shortly.
2015 has been somewhat of a year of disillusionment for me with the ICAEW so it was heartening to have a successful ACCA Training Monitoring Visit recently. Our Gold Approved Status has been renewed. Having this level of accreditation is of immense benefit to our trainees when they pass their exams.
Young Sam Dennett is a fine man with many qualities and he has thoroughly deserved becoming new qualified. I am extremely proud of our young people and our training policy. I look forward to meeting our new trainee Karen shortly.
The football season has started again and so far somewhat of a disaster for the local clubs. My sporting priorities are at the moment centered around making sure Widnes emerge still in the Premiership after the Super 8’s and the England rugby team. The Bath boys really make a huge difference and it was wonderful to see Anthony Watson score 2 tries on Saturday against Les Bleus.
I am very hopeful the boys will put on a great show at the World Cup. Ending the blog on a serious business note, I was very disappointed that the Tory government has introduced a new dividend tax operative 2016/17. We are running some numbers as this will impact on the majority of company shareholders.
